Crust leather is the main product but the tannery also produces finished leathers for lining, leathergoods and footwear upper. The plant has launched production of a chrome-free crust, which is believed to be environmentally friendly. According to the results of the production audit for compliance with environmental standards, conducted by the International Association of Leatherworkers (“Leather Working Group”), the tannery, the first among Russian tanners, was awarded the Golden Certificate. Verkhnevolzhsky Tannery participates in the following international exhibitions: "IILF Chennai", India (February); Lineapelle, Italy (March and October); APLF, Hong Kong (March - April); MosShoes, Moscow (September and March); LeatherTech, Bangladesh (October - November). The new owners which came 5 years ago, invested a lot in sewage treatment plants, energy facilities, purchased new modern equipment (an Emmezeta rotary press for embossing, Erretre and Pajusco Tecnologie drums for soft leathers, etc.). Equipment was installed for the production of edible collagen and fat from splits, which are used in the cosmetic and food industries. The resulting collagen powder is used in dry form to be added to the mincemeat. Gels, emulsions or granules are also produced from it. The installation of new energy equipment along with other measures to save energy allowed to reduce electricity consumption by more than 3 times in 3 years. Part of the thermal energy generated is used by the housing and communal services of the city of Ostashkov for heating. The tannery is one of the largest taxpayers in the Ostashkovsky district. 1,300 peoples work there!
