Huge trade opportunities for India in exporting leather and shoes to Russia

The Indian Leather Export Council announced on September 13 that Russia has enormous export potential for leather and footwear industries.

Russia imported  a $ 3.9 billion worth amount of leather and footwear in 2018, but India’s exports to that country totaled just $ 52.6 million, said Panaruna Akil Ahmed, chairman of the Leather Export Council (CLE).

“The figures clearly reflect export opportunities for Indian players on the Russian market. This will play a decisive role in achieving our planned double-digit export growth levels in the coming years ” - Akel said in a statement.

Russia is the 13th largest importer of leather, leather goods and shoes in the world.

According to him, in order to penetrate the Russian market, the council is not only considering the possibility of participating in exhibitions such as Mosshoes, but also to cooperate with Russian trade and business associations, inviting them to participate in meetings of buyers and sellers in India. 

In September, the chairman sent a delegation of 24 leading Indian exporters of  leather goods and shoes to Russia to participate in the Mosshoes exhibition in Moscow.
